Online learning experience

Online courses

SIAI is an online business school that all educational sessions are held on the online system. The school started the online service by Microsoft Teams for Education, but since 2025, it has been migrated to Moodle along with NextCloud-based internal community. It is to ensure that learning experiences are as qualitative as offline courses.

Over the past years, the school has witnessed that students prefer video records over live sessions as they are more location/time free. Students also have shown to speed up video lectures upto 2x times. Many students watch videos repeated, if the concepts covered in the lecture is complicated.

The school has adapted to online forms of teaching in many other ways, which are discretely supported by our customized version of Moodle. Though we are confident, we will continue to upgrade our system as the technology advances.

For starters, Issues in Computer Programming (OPT101) , a short prep course given to all incoming students, covers a number of programming issues that are basics for later courses. In addition to that, for every problem set and term paper, a set of guideline codes are given so as to provide right direction.
Unfortunately, as an online business school, we do not provide any offline support for learning. However, students are free to access online forum for peer discussions. Professors and TAs also monitor the forum and occasionally step in, in case any confusion arises.

Online courses

All course materials are video streamed, thus students can re-watch the video any number of times. This has proven record for complicated mathematical concepts that students often find conducive by recursive explanation on every concept.

Weekly problem sets

In every week, students are given to submit one's own attempt for previous week’s assignments, which is covered by a video-record TA(Teaching Assistant) session. This is to help students keep up with course progress and share one’s understanding with other students.

Examinations

Together with weekly assignments, SIAI provides an internal submission system for timed examination. For hand-written exam papers, students are recommended to photo-scan via smartphones and submit by image files. Exam questions are designed to preclude any fraudulent behavior that hinders fair evaluation.
